Our Annual Report is Available

by Mark Savan, Executive Director

We are excited to share that the Annual Report for AZELO's activities over the past year has just been published! As we reflect on the progress made, we are immensely grateful for your unwavering support in advocating for end-of-life options in Arizona.

In the past year, we focused on enhancing our outreach efforts. Transitioning from online to in-person engagement allowed us to connect with communities on a more personal level, facilitating meaningful conversations about end-of-life choices.

Our primary legislative goal remains the legalization of Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) in Arizona. Although we did not achieve this in 2023, our legislative efforts significantly increased our reach with policymakers, providing invaluable insights into the legislative process. We remain resolute in our commitment to this cause and will build on these lessons for 2024.

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2024, we are enthusiastic about expanding our in-person outreach across the state. Reaching more communities will allow us to empower individuals with end-of-life choices. Additionally, as we continue to refine our legislative strategy we will begin our efforts earlier in the year with a more targeted approach.

Our Annual Report contains more information about these results and plans. I hope that you will take some time to view it by clicking the link below:

Thank you for being an integral part of the AZELO community. Together, we will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those seeking end-of-life options.

Help AZELO Educate Clinicians about MAID

by Dr Evan Pulvers, AZELO's Health Professions Lead

With the goal of providing excellent palliative care support to patients, Evan Pulvers, MD has developed a presentation titled, "How to respond to patient requests for Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)." The presentation is not pro or anti-MAID, rather it is designed to help providers feel knowledgeable about the various laws, pharmacology, and patient factors related to MAID so they can better support patients who wish to discuss this option. The talk will also support the clinician in adapting known palliative care conversation frameworks to this discussion.

Our goal is to help support patient choice and autonomy at the end of their lives. If you know of any medical office or hospital group that might be interested in a lunchtime lecture, please contact Dr. Pulvers by clicking or copying the link below. This is awaiting CME approval as well!
