Our Seven Touches Campaign continues to make significant headway, providing every state senator and representative with factual, persuasive, and easy-to-digest information about the need for a medical aid-in-dying law in Arizona.

Third Touch: a story from very close to home

So far in the Seven Touches Campaign we have communicated with our legislators about who we are and why a medical aid-in-dying law will make a difference in the lives of Arizonans. We have shared the realities of MAID by way of the Tempra Jones video program.
This time we want to bring our legislators the story of Dr. Tom Fitch, a member of our AZELO Steering Committee and a distinguished oncologist and palliative care physician. His story isn't just powerful, it helps make an important point -- we all live and we all die, and in between we spend our days doing the best we are able.
If you have been actively participating in the Seven Touches Campaign, this third touch will feel familiar. You already know who your state senator and representatives are. I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. I say that because, as you well know, our state and our country continue to face unprecedented challenges. As a citizen of Arizona, I want to thank you for your leadership regarding the COVID-19 crisis. This truly is a year that will be recalled in future history books.

As I mentioned previously, the reason I am writing is to express my personal interest in enlightened, high-quality end-of-life care, especially for those Arizonans who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. You may recall that 70 million Americans in nine states and the District of Columbia already have access to Medical Aid in Dying. Arizona has not passed such legislation yet, but we at Arizona End-of-Life Options are optimistic that you and your colleagues will be inclined to do so in the next legislative session.

Over the next few months I will be sending you additional information about Medical Aid in Dying (MAID). For your convenience, here is the LINK to an amazing letter from a prominent local oncologist who talks candidly about his terminal cancer diagnosis and his wholehearted support for a Death with Dignity law in Arizona. It is well worth reading.

Finally, I will be calling your office sometime in the next few weeks to schedule a brief appointment and discuss the importance of the bill we will be filing at the start of the new legislative session.
